Make Time for Creative Expression

Danae Moore

Happy March! I can't believe it's already the third month of the year. Spring is feeling closer every day. I've been feeling especially creative this past week — perhaps it's that the earth is starting to shed it's winter layers and uncover new seeds, new growth, new possibilities. Perhaps it's also the fact that I'm now 17 weeks pregnant and the new life growing inside me is feeling, moving, seeing light, and preparing to listen to the outside world. He or she is only just waking up to these new senses, new inputs, new experiences to observe, feel, and explore.

There are few things that make me feel more alive than when I create something from scratch so whatever the reason, I will happily run with this feeling. Hearing this quote today in Janya's Restorative class at Avalon provided me with even more inspiration:

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.”
— Martha Graham

Find a way to be creative this week and give your vitality a voice — whether you like to dance, cook, sing, make art, or make something with your hands. It's not only a wonderful way to connect to yourself, but also a great way to relieve stress and breathe new energy into a rough day.
